5 Fun Things to Do When It's Raining in Kelowna

Aside from the wine, one of the best things about living in the Okanagan is the weather. Well, usually it is. Sadly, that hasn’t been the case this spring. It seems like for every sunny day Kelowna’s gotten, there’ve been four or five glum ones. That’s hard for such a sun loving community to deal with and it got me thinking, what else is there to do when the weather doesn’t want to cooperate? Here’s a rainy day list of a few fun indoor activities in and around Kelowna.

1. Scandia Golf and Games

Yeah, yeah, I know. If it’s raining you can’t use the go-karts, batting cages, or outdoor mini golf course. But there’s still a ton of fun to be had at Scandia Golf and Games. With over 140 games to choose from, it’s the Okanagan’s largest arcade. Plus there’s a nice mix of modern and classic games so there’s something for everyone. And let’s not forget about my favourite part of Scandia, the 18 hole, jungle themed mini golf course in the basement!  You won’t find the usual windmills and castles down there. Instead, it’s a wild world of jungle ferns, waterfalls, and tropical sounds that’s perfect for a fun family outing or a memorable date night.

2. Take in a Movie (or Two)

If it’s too cold and rainy to actually be at the beach, let the magic of Hollywood make you feel like you’re there instead. Or in outer space. Or in a magical kingdom. Theatres have always been a great escape when the weather’s bad and Kelowna’s got two to choose from. Over in Rutland, you’ve got the Landmark Grand 10 which offers up the best variety of films in town. The Cineplex Cinemas at Orchard Plaza might not have as many choices but their secret weapon is their massive and comfortable reclining seats. No matter which you choose, it’s a great way to forget about what’s happening outside.

3. H20 Centre

It’s no fun getting soaked to the bone when you don’t want to be. But add some warm water, a couple friends, and a floaty pool toy or three and you’ve got yourself a fun afternoon! Splashing around at H20 Adventure + Fitness Centre is a great way to let the kids burn off some energy and it’ll give mom or dad a good head start on getting their beach bod ready for summer.

4. Retail Therapy

Downtown Kelowna has some great stores but if you want to shop ‘til you drop AND stay dry, there’s only one destination for you… The Orchard Park Mall. With over 170 stores and restaurants to choose from, it’s a shopper’s paradise that has almost everything you could ever want under one roof.

5. Wine and Dine

Finally, nothing takes the chill off a glum day like a delicious meal. Kelowna’s restaurants are like tulips in the spring… they keep popping up everywhere. Enjoy a view of the raindrops dancing on the lake from The Cactus Club Café at the Yacht Club, nestle in for some comfort food with soup and sandwiches from Illichman’s (one of Kelowna’s hidden gems), or whittle the day away with gourmet coffee and a classic book at Pulp Fiction Coffee House.

As you can see, even on those relatively few days where you can’t get out and enjoy the sun, there are still plenty of indoor activities in Kelowna. We have it all, and as one of Canada’s fastest growing cities, we just keep getting more! I love living here and guarantee you will too. If you’ve been contemplating a move to the Okanagan, drop me a line. I’ll make sure you find your perfect Kelowna home so you can settle in and start enjoying everything this city has to offer.
